Hundreds of Kano residents took to the streets Sunday evening to protest the appointment of immediate past governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano, northwest Nigeria.
Sanusi Lamido Sanusi who holds the title Dan Majen Kano had his dreams come true Sunday afternoon when Kano state Government endorsed him as successor to late Alhaji Ado Abdullahi Bayero.
Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Engr. Rabi’u Suleiman Bichi, announcing Lamido Sanusi Lamido as the new Emir of Kano said the choice was made after due consultations with relevant stakeholders.
Sanusi defeated Lamido Sanusi Ado Bayero (first son of late Emir Ado Bayero) and Yahaya Inuwa Abbas, son of former Emir of Kano, late Muhammadu Inuwa Muhammadu Inuwa who spent six months on the throne.
Muhammadu Inuwa was succeeded by the late Emir Ado Bayero in 1963.
P.M.NEWS gathered that the angry Kano protesters have already burnt down some structures within Kano municipal.
The new Emir is yet to make a public appearance
