BREAKING NEWS!!!!! Senator shot as police disrupt rally in Rivers (Photos)

Magnus Abe, a serving senator in the National Assembly, was shot earlier Sunday by the police in Rivers state. The Senator was shot at the Rumuola venue of the proposed Save Rivers Movement rally.

According to witnesses, the police had stormed the Rivers State College of Arts and Science in Rumuola to prevent the rally which was scheduled for 1 pm, as early as 5:30 am.
The Ikwere Road Police Station DPO led a group of policemen who began to dismantle all the canopies and the stage for the event. They also chased away young people who were preparing equipment for the rally.
Journalists were not spared as some persons believed to be members of the opposing Grassroots Development Initiative attacked some media people believed to be staff of Channels Television, seized their equipment under the threat of violence, and deleted recordings from their mobiles and tablets.

In the ensuing confusion, Magnus Abe and the Chief of Staff to the Rivers governor, Tony Okocha, both got shot.
Ibim Semenitari, the commissioner for Information in Rivers state said that the senator was shot with a rubber bullet, while the Chief of Staff was hit by a tear gas canister. All attempts to reach the police failed.
Magnus Abe, a serving Senator had decamped from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
