Bloody Fight Breaks Out In Cherubin & Seraphim Church

Serious battle! General Overseer of Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) church, Prophet Obas Kayode narrowly escaped death following a bloody clash over the control of a wing of the church and bitter leadership tussle over alleged financial impropriety.

Church loyalists to the sons of the founding General Overseer of the church, Prophet Oni Jolugba on May 19, 2014 were allegedly said to have razed down the pastor’s multi-million naira 50 room hotel, pharmaceutical company in Isanlu, Kogi State, 10 vehicles belonging to guests, three cars in the pastor’s residence and locking up his wife.

The big trouble in the church started when…

Disagreement occurred between the Pastor and the two biological children of the founding GO Jolugba; Tope and Michael, allegedly over the plans to sell the headquarters of the church to another denomination which led to the intervention of the traditional ruler of the town and some leaders of the community who advised Jolugba’s successor to leave the church property for the founder’s children and find another place of worship.
As a result, Obas and some members of the church were said to have relocated to another building as their new worship centre. Tope and Michael were however alleged to have gone there on February 16 this year to set the house ablaze.

Findings reveal that the church was founded by late Prophet Oni Jolugba, an itinerant tailor who received the call of God in Ikare Akoko, Ondo State, in the early 70s. With time, the church grew in leaps and bounds as Jolugba acclaimed to be a miracle working prophet became renowned with the calibre of worshippers and patronage such that the founder, a stark illiterate soon became an international guest in the UK and US where he has branches.

Due to the swift expansion, it was gathered, the founder had to relocate the headquarters of the church to his home town, Isanlu, headquarters of Yagba East local government area of Kogi State for easy administration.

It was further learnt that Obas Kayode, an orphan from Mopa, a neighbouring town, was adopted as a foster son and brought up by Jolugba.

Obas now in his 40s was said to be so submissive to the founder, that he ( Jolugba) trained him through school and he graduated as a pharmacist from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife in 1997.

It was also learnt that after his internship and youth service, Obas settled down in Isanlu and started to operate a pharmacy shop which later became the largest drug store in the entire local government area.

He was also said to have added hospitality business into his area of interest by building a-50-bedroom hotel in the town
Few years to his death, Jolugba, the founder of the church was said to have declared in one of their national conventions that Obas was his next successor and even went ahead to anoint and consecrate him as such in the presence of trustee members and the council of elders of the church. He was said to have passed on in July 2011 after which Obas became the substantive GO.

The pastor, Kayode Obas speaking on the attack said: “Their target was to sell the church headquarter to another denomination, we are not quarreling with them over Baba’s personal property, but the headquarters was collectively built by us. We even left the building for them as advised by elders, but they came to where we hired and burnt it down again, I have lost over N750 million including cars, buildings and other property.

“Some people in the town are inciting them against me, because they say I am not a native of the town and have amassed so much wealth, so they are hiding under this crisis to ruin and even kill me. The children 13 to their dad, but I showed them all the document said all the property I laboured for belonged ments of my business registration, no where was the name of Jolugba seen as business partner or the owner of the business.

“They said because I used Jolu-Kayo as my business name, the company is jointly owned by me and their father whereas I used that acronym to honour their dad who is also my foster dad. The member representing Yagba East constituency, Henry Ojuola was one of them, he even came to our church to incite members against us and he was the one who went to bail those arrested over the crisis, he is also boasting that no body will be prosecuted over the case.

When contacted on the crisis, the deputy general leader of the church who is based in Omuo Ekiti, Superintendent A. A Adeyemo said “ these boys don’t understand anything about Jah Zion Church, when we were contributing money to build the church, the children were no where to be found, they were even attending a different church with their mum.”

Also speaking on the issue, Special Apostle Oluyori who is in charge of the church in Akure, Ondo State said “we have talked to these children they are adamant, children don’t inherit their father’s church, I am a co- founder of the church but since Baba handed over the church to Obas Kayode, we must follow him.”

The leader of the church in Kabba, Apostle Peter Jimoh in his own reaction said, “these children want to destroy the good name of their father. We are not interested in their father’s personal property, but the church belongs to us, and Jolugba. Before he died, he handed over the leadership of the church to Obas Kayode, and wherever he is going, that’s where we will go.”

Meanwhile Hon. Henry Ojuola has however denied the allegations saying: How can I incite people to burn his property? I truly went to their church to preach peace to them and not to incite anybody against him. While reacting to bailing the suspects he said: “Yes I took their bail at the police station, because they are members of my constituency, even those recently arrested for the burning, I will go and give them N10, 000 for feeding. Until the law court pronounces them guilty, I can not do so, it is only natural that as their representative, any time anybody runs into trouble, they will call me, that is all”.

Efforts to get the reaction of Michael and Tope Jolugba as well as their mum proved abortive.

Jonathan Is Yet To Congratulate Sanusi As Emir of Kano

About 48 hours after the emergence of Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the REAL Emir of Kano, President Goodluck Jonathan has yet to congratulate him on his emergence as the usual protocol demands.

Jonathan’s plan to travel to Kano to pay condolence to the family of the late Emir and members of the emirate on Monday was put off abruptly. Sources say the trip was aborted because of Sanusi’s emergence.

The combination of Sanusi as Emir and Governor Kwankwaso, who defected from PDP to APC would indeed spell doom for Jonathan’s electoral misfortune in Northern Nigeria in 2015 and he is very angry.

Sanusi’s emergence, according to sources, is seen in the Presidency as a big blow to Jonathan’s fortune in 2015 and this could mean that Jonathan can’t win the Presidential election.

It was not clear at press time if the President would be ready to go and pay homage to the new emir in Kano as is often the practice.
There has been no love lost between Jonathan and the new Emir since the President suspended him from office as the CBN governor on February 20. In suspending Sanusi, Jonathan had said in a statement that he found out that Sanusi’s tenure at the CBN had been characterised by alleged acts of financial recklessness and misconduct, which the Presidency said was inconsistent with the administration’s vision.
Sanusi is still contesting his suspension and his probe in court as of the time of his emergence as the Emir.

Exposed: Lawmakers Got N50m Each To Defect – Oshiomhole

State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, said on Monday that some members of the state House of Assembly, who recently defected to the Peoples Democratic Party from the All Progressives Congress, were given N50m each to sell their mandates.

The governor, who said this while addressing different groups of youths on peaceful protest to the State House in Benin, however, said his administration was not bothered by the defection of the law makers.

Oshiomhole said that, in spite of the efforts of Edo people, who all went round to campaign for the legislators, they decided to sell their mandate for money

He described their action as sickening because they were “young men who should be anxious to break from the past.”

He said, “However, because they believed they do not have any chance of being re-elected in February next year, because they have either done two terms or because of their poor performance, they know their constituency will not re-nominate them. They now decided to benefit from the desperation in different parts of the country by selling their mandate for N50m each. They have collected advance payment of N35m.

“When I read this in the newspapers, initially, I didn’t believe. But going round, people tell me they are buying new vehicles, others are rebuilding their hotels. Suddenly money is flowing.

“Obviously, I think it is important that if democracy is going to survive, each promise must be kept because in the last election, I had to go and do a television advert when the PDP people said this election was not Oshiomhole’s election. Therefore vote for individual candidates, I went on television to say that a vote for these House of Assembly members was a vote for Adams Oshiomhole.

“I had to do that because Edo people were not going to accept some of these people and I had to remind them that if they do not vote for them they would create problems for me. Now the vultures have come and they are offering money and people are collecting money and making all kind of excuses.”

While stating that there was no cause for alarm, the governor explained that many of the people who defected from the APC could not win election on their own merit in their own polling unit.

“They were voted for as ACN with the broom. If you were vote for as ACN, with the broom, how can you now go and replace it with an umbrella that is torn and abandoned.

“People with little mind will think that they can sell their constituents with thirty-five million or fifty million depending on when they will get their balance and with time more truth will be revealed and when it is revealed a lot of these people will not be able to walk through the streets of Oredo and Ikpoba Okha.

“Those who voted some of them do not have a thousand naira but those they have voted for have chosen to sell it for a huge sum. As far as I am concerned, we are stronger. Edo politics will be cleaned up and the cleaning is already here”, he said.

Earlier, the spokesperson for the group, Emma Yamah, had explained that the youths were at Government House to demonstrate their support for the governor. He lamented that the four legislators, who had been suspended by the state legislature for misconduct, “rode on the governors back to get elected but now defect to the opposition party, to their disappointment.

Yamah assured that the youths would demand their mandates from the lawmakers because power belongs to the people and not a selected few.

Who Suffers More From A Broken Heart – Men Or Women

As ridiculous as it may sound, there are actually worse things in life than death. If you’ve ever gone through a break up before, you’d agree that the experience thereafter is always hellish especially if you’ve invested lots of emotion, time, effort and resources in the relationship.

It becomes even more excruciating if what you get in return for your investment is heartbreak. So, as usual, opinions were sampled from Nigerians to bare their minds on who ends up the most hurt after a break up. Roll with me.

Folake (Interior designer) Female

Break ups to be candid, aren’t always easy for both parties to deal with especially if both were committed to it. I am tempted to say the woman because we are very emotional in nature. You know, we cry more, think more and end up really depressed after the relationship ends.

John (Banker) Male

Well, even a day year old child knows that it is the woman. Men initially will feel bad, but they quickly get over it like nothing ever happened. I mean, you don’t expect us to be lying down on the couch like we are suffering from terminal illness, do you?

Mabel (Accountant) Female

Hmmm… I would say the man. The man because getting a special lady isn’t quite an easy task. Unlike men, women get wooed virtually on a daily basis. She can easily and quickly get someone else if not better and forget about the ex. That way, another man makes her get over the previous relationship.

Femi (Microbiologist) Male

The emotional nature of women means that it takes longer for them to heal than men. It’s almost impossible for men to lie down like a log of wood moaning over a break up. It will be a dent to our ego. Obviously, women suffer more.

Ann (lawyer) Female

The bond between a man and a woman in a relationship determine how bad or how worse both suffer in the aftermath of a break up. If both were truly emotionally involved and committed, then the healing would take longer for both. The only reason why woman would be affected most is the emotional and fragile nature of their hearts.
Chuks (Mechanical Engineer) Male

It sure must be the woman. Except the man was the one doing the Mr lover man thing, it’s quite rare to see men being the more heartbroken.

Rossana (Customer care agent) Female

You’d be surprised that some men are quite emotional too and they get badly hit by a break up. In most cases, who does the trying-to-come-back thing? The man. So, I don’t want to totally conclude that ladies are the ones that only get badly hit. Men are fragile and soft like a baby too.

Lawrence (Architect) Male

Heartbreaks aren’t always easy for anyone to deal with including the man. Psychologically, one is really disturbed either the man or woman. But it must be stated clearly that men have stronger hearts to deal with a break up than women.

*****

There you have the different opinions from our respondents. However, I must quickly say that usually, heartbreaks from break ups can affect either both parties or one of the two. Love is so strong that even the strong hearted can severely be broken hearted. That’s why after a break up you could see a man folding in bed like he has just been shot with a rifle.

So, folks, if you have a different opinion, feel free to drop your comments.

Sanusi’ Coronation As Emir: Schools Shut In Kano

Hundreds of protesters have continued to protest the emergence of the immediate past Central Bank Governor, Malam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano, Northwest Nigeria.

The youths in their hundreds made bonfires on Emir palace road on Monday. Motorists were forced to hold green leaves while chanting “bamuayi.”

A number of schools remain shut in the city while additional security was noticed in bank premises.

Although the protests were concentrated within the old city, city dwellers avoided the streets.

In Sabon Gari, a predominantly Christian quarters, business activities suffered hiccup as most shops remained closed for fear of looting by protesters.

However, there was a beehive of activities at government offices with civil servants at their duty posts.
Few minutes after his announcement as the new Emir of Kano yesterday, residents went wild, torching some houses and cars within Kano city. The protesters marched from the city through Kofar Nasarawa into the state road. They later moved towards Government House where they were stopped by security guards.

Vehicular movements were interrupted for hours in Kano city and vehicles and tricycles had to display green leaves to show solidanty with the protesters.

Following the protests, most parents became apprehensive and refused to take their children to school while the authorities of most schools decided to shut down.

Commenting on the protests, Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, ASP Magaji Musa Majia, said, “yes, we have some security challenges at hand but we have deployed counter measures to address them.”

The new emir made his first official appearance at the Kano Government House on Monday. He paid homage to the state Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

He said peace and stability will be his watchwords during his reign, adding that his policies and decisions will be guided by Islamic tenet.

Sanusi also received his appointment letter from the Kano State Government on Monday, according to the spokesman of Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Baba Dantiye.

“He received his appointment letter and other traditional staff this morning. What is going on now is preparation for his turbaning which will take place any momemt from now,” Dantiye stated.

The new emir was later turbaned this afternoon.

The Kano State Government through the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Rabiu Sulaimon Bichi on Sunday announced Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the man to succeed the late Ado Bayero.

Meanwhile, about 24 hours after his announcement as the new Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the immediate past Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria is still waiting for the usual congratulatory message from the Aso Rock presidential villa.

Since he became Nigeria’s president over four years ago, President Goodluck Jonathan has never wasted time in sending congratulatory or condolences or messages of felicitations when the need arises.

Such messages, usually signed on his behalf by Reuben Abati, the President’s special adviser on media and publicity usually hit the mails of journalists few hours after the occurrence of the event. Following this tradition, many Nigerians had expected that the President would have sent a message to congratulate the new Emir of Kano.

Well, the congratulatory message had not come as at the time of filing in this story in the afternoon.

It is not certain whether the Presidency will still congratulate Sanusi on his ascension to the throne of his grandfathers before the end of today.

But events in the past 24 hours indicated that the Jonathan administration seemed determined as much as possible to take the shine off the celebration of Sanusi’s coronation as the Emir of Kano.

Last night, the Federal Government grounded a private jet that took Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State and other leaders of the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, to Kano, disallowing it from flying back to Port Harcourt.

P.M.NEWS gathered this morning that a plane carrying Governor Tanko Al-Makura to Kano Airport was also not given clearance to land by the Commandant of the Airport.

PREMIUM TIMES quoted Major General Chris Olukolade, Director of Defence Information as confirming the ban on flight of private jets to Kano by the military for “security reasons,” the nature of which he failed to explain.

The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, FAAN also confirmed that the ban was imposed by the military.

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, a former minister of Federal Capital Territory and a chieftain of APC said the ban was part of the ongoing persecution of  Sanusi by the Jonathan administration.

“Is Nigeria under military rule or martial law allowing the violation of constitutional rights with such impunity?”  El-Rufai queried on his official Facebook page.

“When will the Jonathanians give up on this hopeless persecution of a good man? For how long will the Jonathanians continue to test the patience of our people and the citizens of Kano with this reckless impunity,” he added.

The relationship between President Jonathan and the former CBN Governor had turned sour few months before the end of his tenure at the apex bank.

This followed the leakage of a letter to the President in which the former CBN Governor accused the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC under the supervision of  Ministry of Petroleum Resources headed by Mrs. Dieziani Madueke of failure to remit over $48 billion realised from crude oil sale into the federation account.

Mrs. Madueke, regarded as the closest Minister to President Jonathan, denied the allegation and in the ensuing controversies, the President booted Sanusi, who was also accused of different allegations of financial impropriety, out of office.

Sanusi’s challenge of the President’s action is still pending in court.

The PDP later issued different statements in which it accused the former CBN Governor of working for the opposition APC.

Thus, when the death of Emir of Kano, Ado Bayero was announced last Friday, many Nigerians had anticipated that the former CBN Governor will not to be the favourite candidate of the Presidency and the PDP for the new position.

This was why the PDP wasted no time in sending a congratulatory message when rumour filtered in yesterday afternoon that the eldest son of the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Sanusi Lamido Ado Bayero has been appointed as the new Emir of Kano.

The late Bayero is believed to have soft spot for President Jonathan and his son was expected to also follow the same path.

The PDP later withdrew the statement and had not deemed it fit to send another one to Lamido Sanusi.

Apart from the controversial way he was booted out of CBN, the Presidency also believed that Sanusi is too close to the big wigs of the APC and that his ascension to the throne will affect the chances of the ruling party in the 2015 elections.

The situation in Kano was further compounded for the PDP by the fact that the state governor, Malam Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is a sworn enemy of President  Jonathan and was one of the five governors who decamped from PDP  to the APC in November last year.

With 5.1 million registered voters, the second highest in the country, Kano is considered strategic to winning the Presidential election in Nigeria because of its voting population.

This, according to sources, was why chieftains of APC stormed Kano over the weekend to do the groundwork that many believed contributed to the emergence of Sanusi as the new Emir.

Sources told P.M.NEWS that the Presidency is still studying developments in Kano, especially in view of the protests that have greeted the announcement of the former CBN Governor as the new Emir and may not be in a hurry to congratulate him.

Goodluck Jonathan Impounds Governor Amaechi’s Jet In Kano For His Role In The Appointment Of Lamido Sanusi As The Emir Of Kan

Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan tonight ordered Nigerian aviation authorities to prevent the jet carrying Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi from leaving the Kano International Airport grounded after security agencies decided that Mr. Amaechi, former Lagos Governor, Bola Tinubu, ex-governor of Kwara State, Bukola Saraki and a former governor of Gombe state and now Senator, Danjuma Goje were instrumental to pressurizing Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano to ratify ousted CBN Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the new Emir of Kano.

The Bombardier aircraft that was recently released to the governor could not leave the airport as aviation agencies claimed there was an order from above to stop night flights out of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport in Kano.

Governor Amaechi reportedly left Kano around 8pm Nigerian time by road en route to Port Harcourt.
SaharaReporters learnt that National Airspace Management Authority (NAMA)operatives refused to give clearance to the governor’s jet to take off leaving the governor and his aides no other option than to travel by road out of Kano.

The Kano State commissioner for State Affairs, Aminu Abdusalam who was responsible for hosting guests to the governor confirmed the development in a short speech tonight in Kano. The seizure of Ameachi’s jets followed a riot in Kano against Sanusi’s choice as Emir.
This will not be the first Governor Amaechi’s jet would be impounded by president Jonathan, on April 26th 2013, the governor and his entourage was grounded for about two hours at the Akure Airport, Ondo State, on the allegations that it violated aviation procedures before take-off. The jet was later seized by the Nigerian government until it was released last week.

Amaechi and his aides were returning from Ado-Ekiti, where they attended the burial of the late Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, Mrs. Funmi Olayinka.
