Fire guts Big Brother House in S.Africa

Fire has gutted the studio of Big Brother Africa (BBA) halting the launch of Big Brother Hotshots. The cause of the fire is yet to be established as at the time of filing this report.

According to reports, no one was injured in the fire outbreak at the Sesani Studios, Johannesburg, South Africa.

The reality television show which is one of the biggest in Africa will now be held at a different venue. “M-Net and Endemol South Africa advise that due to a devastating fire at the Big Brother house on 2 September 2014, Big Brother Hotshots will not launch this Sunday 7 September as scheduled,” a statement by BBA read.

“The cause of the fire at this stage is unknown and investigations will commence as soon as it is safe to do so”.

“At this stage M-Net and Endemol are urgently looking for an alternative Big Brother house in which to film the production, however as this production has highly technical infrastructure, camera and edit requirements an alternative is not immediately available.

“Every effort will be made to find a solution as quickly as possible to ensure that Africa’s biggest reality show will continue.”

Man kills father over stick of cigarette

The police in Benin has arrested and detained a 22-year old man, Bestman Momodu, who allegedly killed his father over a missing stick of cigarette.

Bestman who was among 68 suspects paraded for various offences, reportedly killed his father, Zuberu Momodu at Ubiane Aviele town, Etsako West local government area of Edo State, on 16 August 2014.

According to the state Commissioner of Police, Foluso Adebanjo, who paraded the suspected criminals, Bestman stabbed his father with a cutlass machete, following an argument over a missing stick of cigarette in the house.

He added that police have recovered the machete with which the suspect allegedly committed the crime.

Speaking to journalists at the State Command Headquarters in Benin, Bestman who confessed to the crime however attributed it to a mistake.

Other suspects were arrested for their alleged involvement in various crimes ranging from armed robbery, kidnapping, murder, illegal possession of firearms, rape, cultism, defilement, unlawful possession of fake product to obtaining money under false pretence and impersonation.

Items recovered from the suspects included 17 assorted guns, 48 live cartridges, three cars, one Lifan motor cycle, one battle axe and one cutlass.

Adebanjo had earlier told journalists that the police would strive to secure lives and property in the state in the “ember months,” noting that “the ember months are the months criminals want to reap where they have not sow.”

He called on the press and members of the society to partner with police to combat crime by giving useful information to the police.

“We must all work together for a peaceful society. It is not for the police alone”, Adebanjo said.

GENTLEMEN! Here’s how to escape the ‘friendzone’

Most guys just don’t get it…

They’re baffled when they act sensitive, polite and nice when they first meet a woman, then get slam-dunked into her “friendzone” — that no-man’s land where women tell you their problems and cry on your shoulder but won’t even consider dating you.

If you’re a guy who usually ends up in the friend zone, then here’s a wake-up call: your sensitive, polite, innocent behavior does absolutely nothing to create feelings of can’t-keep-her-hands-off-you attraction in a woman.

Creating that feeling requires behaving in totally different way. This in mind, here come three sure-fire ways to escape the friend zone for good…

1. Stop Making Excuses.
When you first meet a woman, don’t make excuses or hide the reason that you’re approaching her in the first place. In other words, your “stories” about wanting to borrow her phone, see what she’s reading or help her carry her bags? Guess what…they all increase your chances of having her think of you as “just a friend” right from the start.

On the other hand, if you want to ignite feelings of attraction in a woman, then you need to come across as potential “date” material right out of the gate. You accomplish this by being direct with her… preferably in a funny way (for example, turn the tables by telling her, “I get so tired of women wanting to get physical with me. You look like you’d just like to be friends, so let’s grab some tea.”).

Do it, and you make her feel intrigued, captivated, and interested instantly…instead of just making her imagine how nice it will be to have you as a friend to help with her phone and carry her bags.

2. Show Her You Have A Life.
Most guys come off sounding a bit shy and needy when they first approach a woman. It’s only natural and extremely common — but it also commonly triggers a natural response inside a woman that says, “Awww, he’s so cute. He’d make a great friend.”
This is why it’s critical to show a woman right away that, even if you’re the shy type, that you have a life. That you’d love to have some fun with her and see where it goes, but if she’s not into it, then it’s no big deal. You have a life, and you’ll just move on (as opposed to hanging around as a “friend” waiting for her). The best way to accomplish this is by not “asking” a woman out at at all. Instead, let her know you have plans and that she can join you if she’d like.

And by the way — make sure that you don’t talk yourself into rejection by “going for it all.” Don’t go on and on about where you’ll take a woman on an amazing date, and how much mind-blowing fun she’s guaranteed to have with you. All of this just creates awkwardness, pressure, and resistance…so don’t do it.

3: Don’t Wait too long to “Make Your Move.”
The biggest reason that a guy gets banished to the friend zone is that he waits too long to make his move with a woman. This means delaying “getting physical” with her, plain and simple. When a man does this, he sends two fatal signals: That he’s not confident, which is the ultimate attraction killer. Or that he’s just not interested in taking things any further.

In a nutshell…you know you’re interested in “that” way, but a woman has no clue until you show her. So early on, guide her with a light hand on her back. Take her by the hand when you cross the street. Throw caution to the wind and go in for the kiss. The worst that can happen is that she pulls back. And then, at least, you know where you really stand and can react accordingly (by either investing more time in her or just moving on).

Either way, here’s what it all of this boils down to: most guys know that once a  woman slam-dunks you into the friend category, it’s almost impossible to escape. From then on, they see you as a buddy, a confidante, a shoulder to cry on, also known as the guy she talks to about dating problems with guys that she’s actually ATTRACTED to.

So make no excuses when you approach a woman. Show her that you have a life…don’t wait to make your move …and YOU will become the guy who gets the date (instead of her thanks for being such a great friend).

FCTA confirms suspected case of Ebola in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) said on Monday that it is expecting the result of test conducted on a man who was suspected to have died of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD in Asokoro General Hospital in Abuja.

Badaru Salisu Yakasai, Head, Public Relations Unit of the Health and Human Services Secretariat (HHSS) said in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday that the suspected Ebola patient died at the weekend before the result of the test could be released.

The statement read: “The Family Medicine unit of Asokoro District hospital suspected Ebola disease in a patient on admission at the Accident and Emergency unit on the 28th of August 2014 and immediately isolated the patient.

“Strict infection control measures were immediately instituted. Blood sample was then taken to the designated FCT Ebola testing laboratory which happens to be within the Hospital premises.

“The epidemiology unit of Public Health Department of the Health and Human Services Secretariat was notified and their response was immediate. The result of the Ebola testing was being expected from the Laboratory four days later, on Monday the 1st of September 2014.

“Unfortunately, the patient died the next day, Friday 29th August 2014.”

Yakasai added that a number of medical staff of the hospital who had contact with the patient have been placed under surveillance.

He also added that the case has served as a drill case to test the preparedness of the hospital to manage and contain Ebola disease.

“Clinical assessment of the patient did not reveal any history of contact or travel, however in view of the high index of suspicion, isolation and strict infection control measures were continued and the unit was condoned off.

“The accident and emergency unit was temporarily relocated to the General outpatient unit (GOPD). A list of all Medical staff that had come into contact with the patient has been compiled and they are all under surveillance,” it explained.

The statement further advised the general public not to panic as the case of Ebola has not been confirmed at the Hospital and the measures that have been put in place are only precautionary in the interest of public safety.

Earlier on Monday, at the 2nd Emergency National Council on Health Meeting on the Ebola Virus Disease Outbreak in Nigeria held in Abuja, the Minister of Health; Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu debunked the claims of the presence of the virus in the Federal Capital Territory as rumored at the weekend.

“The case of the Abuja hotel has been investigated and proven that it was not a case of the EVD,” he said, adding that, the said person was not a Liberian but a Nigerian working with the USAID.

UNILAG Chief Security Officer assasinated at beer parlour

The head of operations, Security Unit of the University of Lagos, Sunday Adejumo, was killed on Friday August 29th by suspected assassins at a beer parlor on Oyenuga street, behind St Finbarrs str., Akoka, Lagos.

Adejumo, 50, was drinking with some friends at a beer parlour called Daniel's Place when three men walked up to him, dragged him off his chair, stabbed him before they shot him dead. Continue...

Narrating what transpired the night he was killed, a resident of the area who spoke anonymously with Punch said it is believed that he was killed by some cultist
"When the gang got in, they went to where he was sitting. They had different weapons, ranging from cutlasses to guns. One of them went to him, hit him in the chest and he fell down. He then brought out a gun and shot him point blank. On the table where he was drinking with his friends were a pay slip, his ATM cards and his car key.”
Police sources say his body was taken to the Yaba mortuary. Meanwhile the three friends he went to the beer parlor with as well as the owner of the beer parlor are now being interrogated.

Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, Lelma Kolle, said the unknown gunmen actually tried to escape with the deceased car after they killed him
"Investigations revealed that the man parked his car a distance away from where he was drinking. The police also discovered that there was a blood stain on the car and the car key was found within the vicinity, also with blood stains. This can only mean that after they killed him, they attempted to go away with his car. They actually succeeded in opening the car because there were blood stains on the car seat. But the car did not move because of the security system in it. The owner of the bar has been arrested and he has made statements. We cannot categorically say whether this was a robbery or an assassination plot. The matter is still under investigation.” he said
The management of the University of Lagos is yet to make a statement on the incident
