PHOTONEWS: Students At Ajasin University Riot Over Their Colleague Killed By Hit-and-Run Driver
A riot broke out in the early hours of today at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA) in Ondo State after a driver hit and killed a student of the institution.
The students were incensed on learning that a reckless and impatient driver, knocked down, Segun Adesuyan, a 300 level Microbiology student and fled the scene, leaving the deceased in a pool of blood.
Eyewitnesses said the culprit was driving a mini bus popularly called ‘Agolo’ when the tragic incident happened at the Ajax junction close to the school.
A student told a correspondent of SaharaReporters that the deceased student was rushing to a morning lecture when he fell prey to the hit-and-run driver.
As the sad news filtered through the campus, some students, especially those who knew the victim, gathered at the scene of his death to stage a protest. The students barricaded the roads leading to the main gate of the campus and chanted angry war songs.
The irate students demanded that residents of the community where the accident occurred should immediately identify the hit-and-run driver.
The students also blocked the gate to the university, disallowing passage to motorists.
SaharaReporters learned that some police officers were drafted to the scene from Ikare and Akungba Akoko Divisions to guard against any outbreak of violence in the town.
The heavily armed police officers shot sporadically into the air to scare away the rioting students. Six of the demonstrating students fainted when the police officers fired canisters of teargas at them, creating a tense situation.
The body of the deceased student has been deposited at Ikare Akoko Hospital morgue. A police source said the late student’s parents had been notified of the tragic event and were expected to arrive soon.
Our correspondent reported that all lectures and administrative activities at the institution had been suspended for today.
Meanwhile, the executive members of the Students Union Government have issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the community to produce the driver, believed to be from the immediate community where the accident occurred. Some students threatened that violence would erupt if the community failed to identify and hand over the reckless driver.

Mother, Others Arrested For Selling Baby…As Buyer Pleads She Wants Baby Back
Graphic Photo; House Help Killed With Pepper By Three Nigerians Living In Ghana
A 40-year-old house help of a white man and his Ghanaian wife at Ridge in Kumasi was Thursday evening allegedly killed through suffocation by three Nigerians
– now on the run. Grace Poku’s lifeless body was found with a towel filled with powdered pepper tied tightly around her face with her hands and legs also tied with a rope as she lay in a locked room.
The three Nigerians – names not available at press time – who lived in a semi-detached room owned by the white man and his wife, were accused by people at the crime scene of killing Grace. These same Nigerians were reported to have attacked the wife of the white man whose name was given as Ama Kyere, 70, after which they sped off in a waiting taxi.
What might have motivated the Nigerians to take this weird action was not immediately known. The room in which Grace’s body lay had been locked with padlocks and so the police at Ridge had to forcibly break into it.

Lifeless body of house help |
Personnel of the Regional Police CID were also seen busily taking vital information to help in their investigations. Snippets of information gathered indicated that Madam Ama Kyere, with blood oozing out of her mouth, proceeded to the Ridge Police Station around 4:00 pm to report that three Nigerians in her house had attacked her violently.
The police quickly followed the woman to her house but the Nigerians, who reportedly did not steal anything from the house, were nowhere to be found. The old lady then alerted the police that one Grace Poku, her house help, was missing and so the police started searching for her.
They then broke into the room in which the Nigerians were lodging, only to find Grace’s hand and leg tied with a rope, with her face covered with a pepper-soaked towel.
The police, after talking to the people at the scene, took away the body to the morgue for autopsy. DCOP Kofi Boakye, Ashanti Regional Police Commander, said police had started investigation into the crime.
He added that his outfit would find out whether the woman was sexually assaulted before she was killed by her assailants. DCP Boakye stated that the police would get to the bottom of the case soon, noting that Grace’s killers would definitely be nabbed. He therefore urged the residents not to panic.
Every bad things they call Nigerians, how are we sure they are Nigerians?, how can someone rent a house to a person without names or identity?. Please Ghana police do your work better...

The third suspect, Onuwa Attaka, is the driver of the arms laden vehicle.
It was gathered that their confession showed alleged involvement in supplying of arms to insurgents in the Northern Nigeria.
The three suspects, who were heading to the North from Imo State, were intercepted in Nsukka by officers and men of the Nigerian Army while traveling in a bus.
Items recovered from them include- 40 AK47 magazines, 4 boxes of AK47 live ammunition, 100 pieces of live cartridges, one piece of Denin Mopol khaki and charms concealed in a cap.
One of the army officers who spoke to newsmen under anonymity disclosed that a police corporal serving in Imo State Police Command was also involved in the arms running trade.
He said, “When we asked the occupants of the vehicle to come down, we discovered a police corporal in uniform among them.
The corporal on getting down pretended to be pressed; he later ran away”, he said.
It was gathered that the suspects were later taken to Nsukka Police Division before their transfer to the state CID.
The retired DSP, Abu Haruna, confessed that he had been in the business of arms dealing since he retired from the police.
He said their mission was to supply the ammunition to their buyer in Taraba State.

Military uncovers rocket launcher production facility in Kano
The nation’s military has made a discovery it believes will further boost its fight against terrorism.
Defence spokesman, Major General Chris Olukolade, in a release Friday night said a cordon and search exercise uncovered a Rocket Launcher production facility at Dorayi District in Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State.
The discovery, he said, follows the arrest of a prominent member of the Boko Haram sect.
Seized items include locally made Anti-Aircraft Gun and Mortar accessories as well as Rocket Propelled Grenade tubes and Launcher along with accessories.
Also seized were three AK47 rifles and hundreds of rounds of assorted ammunitions, drilling machines and other fabricating equipment.
The statement reminded the general public to report suspicious persons to security agencies in their localities to prevent unwholesome act by terrorism.
Mutiny: Nigerian Major General smacked around and forced to trek round barracks
Nigerian soldiers have committed yet another mutiny at Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri. According to reports from Sahara Reporters, Brigadier General M.Y. Ibrahim, the newly posted General Officer
Commanding the 7th Division of the Nigerian Army located at Maimalari Barracks, Maiduguri got a taste of the
soldiers’ fury on Thursday afternoon as angry soldiers stormed his office to demand that he pay their allowances
and reinstate motorbikes to transport them and members of their families within the barrack. Several sources in the barracks told SaharaReporters that
the soldiers’ second act of mutiny in two weeks began around 3:00 p.m. (Nigerian time). The angry soldiers blew a whistle, and most of the rank and file gathered at a spot before they marched en masse to the 7th Division headquarters building where the GOC’s office is located. The sources said the soldiers shot in the air as they marched and chanted “We no gree oh, we no gree!” Our sources said the protesting soldiers were upset about the
army’s failure to pay their outstanding allowances. They were also annoyed by the decision of the newly posted GOC
to ban motorcycles as a form of transport within the barracks. The new GOC reportedly banned motorbikes known as Okada and tricycles known as “Keke NAPEP” from operating within the vast barracks. The soldiers wondered why the new commander would prohibit the use
of the only affordable means of transport they have when he knows full well that the base covers a huge area and that
few soldiers own cars or bike. “If no okada [motorcycles] are allowed, then our small children have to walk to school and our wives will walk to market,” one of the soldiers told SaharaReporters. “Are we
not suffering too much already?” he added. Once they arrived at the GOC’s office, the protesting soldiers decided to give him a dose of the experience of
navigating within the barracks without motorcycles. They ordered Major General XYZ to come outside the building,
pushing and shoving him. Then they forced him to trek all through the barracks. The angry soldiers also demanded the payment of their
N100, 000 furniture allowance which, according to them, was long overdue.
Last week, frustrated soldiers at the same barracks demonstrated and shot at the car of their erstwhile GOC, Major General Ahmadu Mohammed. The soldiers felt that General Mohammed’s operational orders were responsible for the death of close to 100 soldiers who were returning
from an operation in Chibok, the town where members of the Islamist group, Boko Haram, kidnapped 276 high schoolgirls near midnight on April 14. The abduction of the girls, who remain missing, has sparked outrage in Nigeria and around the world. Military authorities in Abuja decided to remove Major
General Mohammed a day after the first mutiny. One of the soldiers who spoke to SaharaReporters stated that he and his colleagues want military authorities to be
more focused in their approach to the war against Boko Haram. “We can finish them [Boko Haram] without difficulty, but the
commanders don’t give us enough weapons for operations. And they send only a few of us to fight hundreds of Boko
Haram fighters,” he said. Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, has been the
flashpoint of numerous bloody attacks by Boko Haram.

9 Fake Nigerian Soldiers Arrested
The Lagos State Police Command hasarrested nine fake soldiers in the state, accusing them of using military uniforms to perpetrate crimes.
According to the police, the suspects – John Henry, Israel Amuzu, Joseph Jidai, Peter Azubuike, Obi Chinyere, Oha Paul, Sulaiman Rahman, Hammed Gbadamosi and Oguntamu Abiola – were arrested in the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area and other places while providing security for churches and vehicles.
They were paraded in the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday.
One of them, Henry, said he made N3,000 on a daily basis from posing as a military man.
The 30-year-old indigene of Kaduna State, who is married with three children, explained that joblessness and the need to cater for his family forced him into parading himself as a soldier.
He said, “I got the military uniform from a friend who is a soldier. He left it for me when he was redeployed to another state. I was using the uniform to escort commercial drivers plying Mile 2 to the Oshodi area. These drivers give me about N3,000 on a daily basis.
“I actually want to join the military. That is why I wear the uniform, and I am ready to work in any part of the country.”
Another suspect, Jidai, an indigene of Maiduguri, Borno State, said he obtained the uniform from a soldier friend who was dismissed from the service recently.
“He sold it to me for N9,000 before he travelled. I am actually a member of the Man O’War. I wore the uniform to escort commercial drivers and I was given about N2,000 daily,” Jidai said.
However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Manko, warned that the police would not allow anyone to use military uniforms to perpetrate crimes.
He said, “All of them claimed to be members of the Man O’ War, but I do not know what Man O’ War members are doing in military uniforms. We arrested some of them who claimed to be working for the Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area. While some fake soldiers were providing security for churches, others were escorting vehicles around Lagos.
“The fact is that none of them has ever served in the military. Many of them said they bought these uniforms in the market, but we would not allow anyone to use any uniform to perpetrate crimes here. Most of the crimes that were reported around the FESTAC area were perpetrated by these men who put on military uniforms. That is why we decided to put a stop to that.”
On the trigger-happy police officer who was alleged to have killed a young engineer in FESTAC Estate, Manko said the police have concluded investigations and he would soon be charged to court.
He said, “We are almost concluding investigations, and we will soon charge him to court. Nobody has the right to extra-judicially take the lives of people. If anybody does that, he must face the law.”

Pastor Planted Hidden Cameras In Church’s Female Restroom Disguised As Air Fresheners (PICTURED)
Lyzenga, 57, held his composure throughout the hearing and spoke with a stressed but steady tone as he pleaded guilty to all 10 counts, without the benefit of a plea agreement.
Judge Randy Williams set a sentencing hearing for July 18 and said Lyzenga’s sentence will be served concurrently, meaning he’ll get two to 10 years.
Lyzenga admitted to five Class C felonies for child exploitation and five counts of Class D felony voyeurism, one charge for each of his 10 victims.
The girls ranged in age from 5 to 16 when they were caught by Lyzenga’s camera.
“It was not my intention to record children,” he said during testimony Thursday.
Even after learning that juveniles had been recorded, however, Lyzenga continued recording and reviewing the footage, he said.
Lyzenga said he thought early on that he wouldn’t feel terribly guilty as long as he didn’t know which parishioners he’d recorded. After awhile, though, he did figure out who his victims were, he said.
He installed the first camera during the Thanksgiving 2011 season. The second one went up, he said, in early 2012. He pointed the devices at two of the five toilets in the women’s restroom just off the sanctuary, where Lyzenga continued to lead services.
“They were Velcro-ed to the door,” he said. “I made it look like it was an air freshener.”
Lyzenga continued as pastor about five months, during which time he downloaded footage, then reinstalled the cameras more times than he could recall, until he was caught in late April 2012.
“I could’ve stopped at any time, but I didn’t,” he said, calling his actions “shameful.”
Lyzenga said he hasn’t undergone treatment for a mental illness, though he did go to a psychiatric hospital the day after he was arrested.
About a dozen members of the church community who attended the hearing declined to comment.
Defense attorney Kent Moore said after the hearing that his client didn’t target the juveniles.
“He was aware of the possibility,” Moore said, “but the goal was not to video children.”
Prosecuting attorney Emily Worsinger declined to comment.

Graphic photos: Genocide committed in Borno State
I cannot verify the authenticity of what you are about to read and see but according to a popular Muslim cleric, Dr. Ahmad Abubakar Mahmu Gumi, who shared the photos on his Facebook page, he claims the men lined up are young Almajiris who were executed without trial as Boko Haram members in Borno state. He claims vigilante groups would move into the villages, pick up young men, take them to the field and kill them. He said this is how some innocent people are killed in the name of fighting Boko Haram. He shared four photos…find them after the cut…but viewer discretion advised. It’s quite graphic…
Army General Opens Up, Says There Is Shortage Of Funds To Fight Boko Haram
General Muraina made the assertion in Jaji, Kaduna State while addressing the media. He said it was urgent to review the army’s financial constraints to enable the force to rise to the challenge of combating the spreading attacks of Boko Haram militants. The general’s claims about inadequate funding are startling in view of the fact that Nigeria budgeted more than $6 billion for security operations last year.
Below is the statement by the army general:
“Currently, budgetary allocation for the military is inadequate to meet the contemporary security challenges and also cater for the welfare of the Nigerian Army. The Nigerian Army is enmeshed in the bureaucratic bottlenecks for the funding approvals for military operations. This calls for a review as the increasing speed at which the effects of conflict appear in the operational environment will continue to challenge commanders.
“It is our humble appeal that [the] government should evolve other means of funding and supporting military operations than the normal budgetary allocation. Such means include but not limited to strategic cooperation and liaison with other civil industries for the production of uniforms and other equipment.
“We are not oblivious of the constraint on revenue generation and the fact that [the] government has so many other responsibilities, but we are appealing to the government to review the current template of funding of the military, considering the current security challenges.
“For instance, the army budget for this year is just N4.8 billion. Assuming we committed 20,000 troops to the Northeast operations, the jacket and helmet is in the average of about $1,000. If you change that to naira, it is about N150, 000. If you now have about 20,000 troops, this means that they are going to spend about $20 million and that is about N3 billion.
"N3 billion as a percentage of N4.8 billion which is the capital budget for this year is more than 50 per cent and that is just one item. We are not talking about uniforms, boots or structures where they will stay. We are not talking about training, because training is key to enhancing the capability of the force.”

Jungle Justice: Police rescue old woman in Ajegunle after mob said she was a witch bird (Photo)
There was pandemonium in Ajegunle area of Lagos yesterday as a mob was adamant on lynching a woman who they accused of being a black bird, moments before it fell from the sky and turned into a woman. Making matters worse, the old woman also claimed to be a bird, drawing the anger of the mob.
Witnesses say three black birds were flying and appeared to be fighting in the sky when one of the birds fell ontop of an Eko Electricity Distribution van.
Another witness said, “The bird suddenly turned to an old woman of about 80. People were shocked as they saw the woman rolling on the road and blood gushing out from her forehead.
“When the crowd was interrogating her, she said she was a witch and that she came from Ibadan for a meeting in Lagos but as they were returning home they missed their way and wasted so much time hovering in the area till daybreak. The woman claimed she fell because she was tired of flying.”
Another witness said, “Immediately the bird landed on the van, it transformed into an old woman.
“Everyone ran away at first but we later gathered round the woman only to discover that she had a bruise on her forehead with which she landed.
“When we asked her what her mission was, she said three of them were sent to Lagos from their coven in Ibadan but that on their way back, they missed their way.
“She said they started hovering in the area until it was morning, adding that she fell because she was tired.
“She also told us that she initially did not want to embark on the journey and that she used to restrict her witchcraft activities to Ibadan because of her age.
“She was thereafter taken to the Baale of Ajeromi, where she confessed to have killed her husband through witchcraft.”
The Baale summoned the police from Ajegunle division to stop the woman from being killed by the angry mob.
